A Pledge for Basic Education: As stated before, in FONHOH we believe that education is the key for development and to promote social justice. We want to strive to offer opportunity to all or many children to have access to basic education. We will identify and give priority to children who are completely helpless. This includes children whose parents die; children issued from families whose bread winner(s) is (are) prevented from supporting the schooling of their offspring due to a certain type of disease or physical or mental handicap, children who have left their parents house prematurely. These conditions will not apply for children in the remote areas where people have no revenues, for we are convinced that children in the remote areas should have unconditional supports to have access to basic education. The present government has articulated the desire to take in charge the basic education of all children, but given the ampler of the problem there is not much guarantee that the government can do much during its 5-year term. We will look at closely the areas of intervention of the government as far as basic education is concerned, and will envisage building on its efforts whenever possible. For example if the government builds a school in a particular remote area and that there is a problem of school supply, we may intervene in this particular situation. This is in line with our reflections in the foundation according which we cannot leave everything on the back of the government when considering so many problems that the country is confronting. |
