Foundation Honor for Haiti (FONHOH)

"Our general goal is to contribute,
to make Haiti an honorable place
where people can live with dignity".

Today In Haiti:
A great number of families can barely afford a meal per day, for many children access to education is a luxury,
people have no access to healthcare in many areas in the country, people are living in substandard housing conditions in many places, sanitation is at its worst level in most places in the country and potable water doesn't exist in many areas. These are only a few problems that our country is facing.

Nonetheless, this sad image is about a country that has a great history. Because we are so, aware of the gap that exists between the present condition of the country and its illustrious history, we have decided to create a foundation that will pay tribute to the honor that this country deserves.

It is our belief that investment in human capital in Haiti can help restore the image of the country so it can secure its place as a respectful and valuable nations, while being a decent and welcoming place for our foreign friends.

The Tipping Point:
This foundation has been created as a result of a series of discussions that have been taken place among a non-formal group of Haitians for over 3 years. The discussion phase has reached the tipping point, now the time for action has come.

This group, which is mainly constituted of Haitian scholars, realized how the situation of the country has reached a point where life takes on a meaning completely different than what people in other areas of the world experience and consequently decided to create a space that will address the fundamental problems of the country.

What We Believe:
"Honoring Haiti", the first independent black country in the post-Columbian New World
, the second independent nation in the American continent and the first and only country to have led a true revolution against slavery is paying a tribute to our ancestors who have lost their blood in the fight for liberty so their little sons and little daughters could live with dignity.

But today we see our fellow citizens who are living under the most abject poverty. This foundation hopes to assist to the sons and daughters of the great freedom fighters of the 19th century who are begging for the basic rights to exist-that is the right to feed their families, the right to education, the right to healthcare- to name a few. It is a shame that the descendants of those who have fought against all forms of slavery are themselves turned into slaves of hunger, slaves of ignorance and slaves of inhumane conditions of living.

Honoring Haiti means for us tackling these very issues that prevent the Haitians from taking pride in themselves as honorable human beings.
And, our search for a better existence is correlated to a universal quest for existence with dignity that all people throughout the world are longing for. Consequently, 'Fondasyion Onè pou Ayiti' is set to help make Haiti a place where the citizens are literate ones; to contribute, encourage and initiate projects of development that can alleviate the life of the poor; and to empower its citizens to participate in the fight against poverty, hunger, and unhygienic conditions of living.

"It is our belief that investment in human capital in Haiti can help restore the image of the country so it can secure its place as a respectful and valuable nations, while being a decent and welcoming place for our foreign friends".

Our general goal is to contribute to make Haiti an honorable place where people can live with dignity.

Some of our specific goals include Contributing at different levels of education; contributing in the struggle for access to healthcare; initiating, encouraging, and/or participating in projects of development that can have direct effect on the lives of the most vulnerable Haitians including of course women and children, contributing to empower communities while encouraging and supporting them to participate in creating a new life for themselves and their offspring.
